General Patient Surgery Checklist

Once your surgery is booked, it's normal to feel like there's A TON of things you need to keep track of. To help you, this checklist covers general reminders for each stage of your surgery planning. Bring any questions to your preop appointment, and please don't hesitate to call, email, or text the office anytime. We're here to support you!

Before Surgery ▼

Financial (due 2 weeks before surgery)

Surgeon fee: Pay remaining balance to our office directly (deposit is deducted)

Facility fee: Pay hospital or surgery center (e.g., Rose, PSL, Midtown, DSC)

Anesthesia fee: CASH or CHECK only

Please bring to your in-person pre-op

Paperwork

Get surgical clearance, including a History & Physical (H&P), from your PCP within 30 days of surgery

Your provider must fax this to our office at 303-831-8404 as part of your required medical clearance!

⚠️ This is an important to-do that takes time! Please schedule your clearance appointment early.

Complete your medical history form at home

Please bring to your in-person pre-op

READ your preop packet (this is in your inbox from Kristy!) with information specific to your procedure

Bring any questions you may have to your pre-op

🚫 Restrictions

14 days before: Stop taking any NSAIDs, GLP-1s, aspirin, blood thinners, supplements, and vitamins

48 hours before: Stop any consumption of alcohol

Day before: Begin fasting at midnight → NO eating or drinking after midnight

Your current prescriptions: Check with our team to see if any medications need to be paused before surgery — timing depends on the medication

Logistics and Shopping

Pick up your medications (e.g., antibiotics, pain relief, etc.)

Buy healing garments

Only needed for breast augmentations, tummy tucks, and large-volume liposuction or fat transfers

Arrange transportation from the hospital

Remember: NO Uber, Lyft, or other rideshare services

Comfy, loose, button-front clothing

Empty stomach (NPO from midnight)

After Surgery ▼

Appointments & Care

Between roughly day 2 and 7 (depending on procedure) you'll have your first post-op visit in the office

Take medications as directed (see medication instructions cheat sheet for a generalized FAQ)

Wear your healing garments (depends on procedure)

🚫 Restrictions

NO showering until roughly 48 hours after your procedure

NO driving until you're on zero narcotics and it's been at least 2–3 days since general anesthesia

NO exercise/strenuous activity until cleared

This is different for everyone depending on how your body and healing progresses!
